Uber and Lyft to combine to make affordable car rentals for all
The ride-hailing companies Uber and other ride-sharing services are getting ready to roll out a new app that will allow drivers to rent cars and make the trips themselves.
The new app, called “Uber X,” will allow riders to rent out their own cars and drivers will be able to do the same.
The company has said it will launch its own app sometime in the next two years.
It plans to launch a $200 fee to drivers for their services and will be using its own cars to do so.
Lyft, which is owned by private equity firm Blackstone Group, has launched its own self-driving car project, called Uber Fusion, and is in the process of getting a fleet of vehicles to operate in San Francisco.
